these days

oh my! it has been a long time since i wrote a blog post other than project 52, which i am barely keeping up with.

life around here has been busy and full and i have had little desire to be in this space of late. i often write posts in my head but they never get to be published. i thought i would take the easy way back in with a these days post joining in with Em's weekly stills.

as we count down the last few weeks before we welcome our new baby into the world, here is a little of what has been happening around here this spring.

1. beautiful bearded iris's picked from the side of the road adorned our table for a short time, while the artwork in the background adorned my wall for an equally short time. it was done by my daughter eloise for her year 12 art class and was recently chosen to be in an art exhibition which features outstanding art work from all the year 12 art students in our state. i am so very proud of my girl.

2. blocks have been played with daily since i introduced them with mirrors.

3. preparing... tiny white washing hanging from the line, is there anything sweeter?

4. the last of the sweet peas in the evening sunlight, how i will miss these (one of my favourite spring flowers) both inside and out.

5. christmas presents are being made early this year. not only as december rolls around we will be busy with our new little one but my eldest daughter is off to europe this summer so her presents need to be early.

6. i am in the 'making' mode at the moment... crafting and sewing. i have so many projects i would like to do before the baby is born but not enough hours in the day.

7. nesting has been happening here big time. there has been painting done, carpets cleaned, anything that can be washed, has been, cupboards have been organised and rearranged, furniture rearranged, rooms rearranged, small bits and pieces collected to decorate the baby's room... there is nothing like the impending arrive of a newborn to get one motivated.

8. the prettiest blooms in my garden at the moment. hollyhocks. love them.

9. an exciting new project... a cubby house in progess... i can't wait until its finished so i can unleash my nesting impulses on it too!

these days

this week...

 busy city days have filled our week, shopping, appointments and visiting family and friends.

a few rare moments were spent enjoying the last days of winter and welcoming in the spring.

1 & 3. i am so happy there are still a few camellia blooms around. we can't grow these at home and i love them so much. i fill like i have had my fix of them for this winter now.

2. a beautiful old weathered gate.

4. he couldn't help but come over to say hello.

5. always looking for a flower to pick.

6. bare shoulders and pony tails, a true sign of how warm it was today, the first day of spring.

this week...

and last week... and the week before...

i can't keep up with how fast the year is going...

1. we celebrated a birthday and i made the flourless chocolate cake from matthew evan's real food cookbook, it was good!

2. i often find scenes like this throughout the house thanks to jess and her insatible desire to pick flowers.

3. the weather has warmed slightly and the sprinkler has been in use once again.

4. the first ranucula has bloomed... and been picked by my girl!

5. "here's a flower for you mummy" and a few more blooms come inside.

6 & 7. we took a walk to the highest sand dune in town and stopped to take in the view before running through the bush down to the beach.

8. how this dog is loved. how sad that she is getting older and grumpier by the day. jess really needs to be supervised when patting tilly now as she is not tolerating much from the smallest member of our family.

these days

this week...

when the weather is fine we take the opportunity to get out and about...

we made a stop at stunning Murphy's Haystacks during the week. the grass is green as far as the eye can see from this beautiful hilltop location. the rock formations rising up in the middle of a paddock, weathered and covered in lichen.

and today we took a drive to the nearby beach of Locks Well. spectacular high cliffs, a wild blue ocean, golden sands and a million steps down... and back up.

sitting on the beach (not so close to the water edge) happily snapping many shots with my new camera, all of a sudden a wave washed up and before i could get up i was more than a little wet! oops! top half was okay and thank goodness so was the camera. oh my how we laughed! this often deserted beach was littered with fishermen today... how i hoped nobody noticed...

wet all the way back up those steps, i was so proud of my littlest who managed them all without complaint.

these days

this week... i thought i would do a little catch up. it has been weeks and weeks since i have done a these  days post or any other post besides project 52. these are some photos taken during the past few weeks. 

the time has flown past although we have spent many days taking it slow. my focus has been on cooking plenty of nourishing food, fighting of winter ills and getting plenty of sleep. there have been trips away and sunny days gardening, beaching combing and inside rainy day play.

6. cute pig tails against a bright sky.

7. making new friends at Harndorf Children's Farm.

9. sour dough smothered in butter and topped with homemade ricotta (my first attempt), smashed bananas and drizzled honey, yum!

10. exotic blooms.

11. freshly picked yarrow hung to dry. the flowers to be steeped as a tea should anyone in our house come down with a fever.

12. i came home from an evening walk (alone) to find the washing folded, fresh flowers adorning the kitchen table and a message from my sweet girls. one happy mumma.
