jessica: oh that hair with its soft little curls at the back, those eyes of blue and those cheeks.

i realised today that i hadn't taken any photos of jess this week so i snapped away about twenty shots in a few moments then i couldn't decide which photo i liked the best... lucky i haven't posted all of them!

quick knit

i have completed a couple of quick little projects recently.

the first is the super easy hood pattern i found on pinterest ages ago. it is designed by courtney spainhower and you can find the recipe here. i added a pom pom to the top. its a little early to be wearing winter hats but my little model obligated long enough for me to snap a few photos.

another pinterest inspired project is the fabric wrapped hoop. i had been meaning to do this for so long. we had an old hoop sitting in the shed. the dog had chewed making it too rough for young hands. i bound it first with thick tape and then wrapped scraps of material around, gluing whenever i started a new bit of material. half and hour the job was done.

i have a number of projects on the go at the moment so expect to see more finished products in the coming weeks.

these days

this week... summer time!

what beautiful summer weather we have been having. warm days and light winds, dewy nights. not too hot, not too cold. swimming, surfing, wet bathers hanging on the line, dripping wet suits hung out over the veranda rail, summer fruit, salads, homemade icy poles, sandy feet and sandy floors.

1. the corn is nearly ready. everyday i press the outside of the cobs to see if they are filling out... not yet but nearly.
2. first pumpkin of the season picked.
3,4 & 5. daddy showed her how to draw in the sand with a stick and she drew all over the beach, always watching behind her as the line kept following.
6. last week there was one, this week there are many... time for jam i think.
7. we have new chickens... new chickens = more eggs... yay!
8. the cutest little ruffly swimmers hanging on the line.
9. rose hips foraged from the side of the road in the hope i will soon be making amber's cardamon spiced rosehip pear jam
10 & 11. an icy pole made of blended watermelon juice and frozen raspberries, poured into the moulds nearly to the top, then blitz a little of the juice with cream and top up the moulds with that. so yummy!

these days

this week... at our place

1. it rained (well... drizzled) during the night and there was great excitement when we awoke in the morning. gumboots and a coat where donned for splashing in the puddles ...but sadly no puddles could be found.
2 & 3. i rummaged through a box in the shed to find the dearest little china tea set. this set belonged to my big girls when they were small. it is just the right thing for a tiny tea party with tiny teddy bears and dollhouse dolls, a tin of buttons for food and felt balls for balloons all set out upon a vintage doily made by my nanna, in the teepee. it made for hours and hours of independent play for jess this week.
4 & 5. the view from our windows is very lovely.
6. first fig of the season from our tree.
7. summer fruit waiting to be cooked and popped into the freezer.
8. ''found you!'' hide and seek is the game of the moment.
9. i realised as i was sorting through my fabric stash that it has nearly been a whole year since i have had the inclination to sew anything much (i have done bits here and there but not much). my fabric basket was testement to this as it still had the remains of the kcwc, held in april last year, thrown in and the list of items i had been trying to get through. i think i burnt myself out big time. i do find it quite pleasing to see my stash looking so neat and tidy, i don't think i will be messing it up with any sewing just yet!

jessica: she really is the sweetest little girl i have ever known but i love it when her cheeky side emerges and she giggles with delight. it is a beautiful sound that giggle.
